FFClickOnce version 0.5 has been submitted to the Mozilla Addons Site. I will update here when it becomes available through that site.

Version 0.5 was released to enhance compatibility with Firefox 2.0.0.1. A problem had been found when the FFClickOnce option "Don't prompt before running application" is not selected. Due to the recent changes in Firefox, FFClickOnce was unable to display a "Run ClickOnce Application" option. Version 0.5 of FFClickOnce fixes this problem.

FFClickOnce version 0.4.1 is now availble on the FFClickOnce page at the Mozilla Addons Site This version corrects the incompatibility with the Java plugin.

An incompatibility has been discovered between version 0.3 and the Java plugin. This incompatibility may also affect other plugins as well. The issue is triggered by the FFClickOnce feature that reports which version of the .NET Framework is installed.

Users of version 0.3 of FFClickOnce should disable .NET Framework version reporting if they are having difficulties running Java applets. Here is the procedure:

  1. Click on the "Tools" menu.
  2. Choose "Extensions".
  3. Select the FFClickOnce extension in the list.
  4. Click on the "Options" button.
  5. Ensure that "Report .NET Framework version to web servers" is NOT checked.

Note

If you had uninstalled FFClickOnce for some reason, you may still be experiencing problems. You will need to do the following procedure to eliminate the incompatibility. Do this only if you have uninstalled FFClickOnce:

  1. Navigate the browser to "about:config"
  2. Filter the preferences to find the preference "general.useragent.override"
  3. Reset the preference by right clicking on it and choosing "reset"--the preference should now be blank.

I have fixed the problem to the best of my abilities--the result is FFClickOnce version 0.4. It is currently avaible from this website. I have also submitted it to the Mozilla Addons Site and am hoping it will be available there shortly.

More information on this incompatibility, which is due to a bug in either the Java plugin or Firefox itself, is available in the Implementation Details section of the FFClickOnce homepage.

My sincerest apologies to anyone who has been affected by this bug. While it is not technically a bug in FFClickOnce, it is triggered by the actions of FFClickOnce. Furthermore, my testing procedures failed to uncover this bug. I will attempt to be more diligent in the future.

Version 0.3 of the extension is now available at the Mozilla Addons Site. Just go to the FFClickOnce page at the Mozilla Addons Site to download it!

I have made two major improvements to the FFClickOnce extension.

  1. FFClickOnce may be configured to automatically run the ClickOnce application when the you click on it, without prompting you. This makes it truly "click once".
  2. FFClickOnce now informs web servers which version of the .NET Framework is installed on your computer. This makes the experience of using ClickOnce even more seamless. This feature may be turned off, if you wish.

You may download it from the FFClickOnce page at the Mozilla Addons Site. (Edit: Updated 2006-05-19)

Additionally, I have created a testing document for FFClickOnce. It is primarily intended for people testing the extension, though I believe that a user could read it and get a good idea of how to use this extension.

FFClickOnce has now been updated to work with Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1 (Bon Echo). The xpi is available below, and I hope to have it on the Mozilla extensions site soon. I will continue to update this extension as new Firefox 2.0 Alphas and Betas are released, but unfortunately I am currently living in China behind a very slow internet connection, so there will be some lag time. Such is life.
